Why we built FieldFlow (and why it costs $19)

FieldFlow started with a simple frustration: the tools that exist for small trades businesses are either too expensive, too complicated, or both.

The problem we kept seeing

If you run a plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or general contracting business with a handful of employees, your software options are pretty grim. Housecall Pro is $59/month for one user, and a second user means its $149 Essentials plan, which is also where QuickBooks sync starts. You can use Jobber at $29/month, but every technician you add is another $29, and the features you actually want sit on the $99 plan. Or you can try to stitch together QuickBooks, Google Calendar, a shared spreadsheet, and prayer.

Ask a small shop why it still runs on paper and a spreadsheet and you tend to hear one of two answers: the software is too expensive, or there is no time to figure it out.

Why per-user pricing is broken

Most field service software charges per user. That means you’re punished for growing. Hire a new apprentice? That’s another $29/month. Bring on a part-time helper for summer? Another seat fee. It creates a perverse incentive to keep your team small or to share logins, which defeats the whole point.

We wanted FieldFlow to be the opposite. One price. Your whole team. No surprises on your credit card statement.

Why $19/month

We did the math. Say a solo plumber does 15 jobs a week at $350 average generates roughly $270,000 a year. Spending $228 a year on software that takes the invoicing off their evenings and gets the bill out the day the work is done is an easy call. Spending $1,788 a year on Housecall Pro Essentials the day they hire a helper? That’s a harder sell when you’re watching every dollar.

$19/month is low enough that one job a month more than covers it. And it’s high enough that we can build a sustainable business without having to raise it.

The other problem we saw was fragmentation. Business owners were using one app for scheduling, another for invoices, another for payments, and a spreadsheet for everything else. Data lived in five different places. Nothing talked to each other.
